DeepMind’s New Division to Take on ChatGPT

Date:

Google is one of the leading tech giants in the world and constantly striving for innovation. Recently, the company has restructured its AI strategies with its new DeepMind division. This new team was created to produce better and faster AI results and promote Google’s goals of a “Great Social, Economic and Scientific Transformation of History”.

DeepMind was initially purchased by Google’s parent company Alphabet in 2014. Now, it has been augmented with the Brain team from Google Research to combine the power of both departments. To lead the new organization, DeepMind’s CEO Demis Hassabis has been chosen and will report directly to Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai. Jeff Dean, Google’s former lead of Google AI, will take the role of Google’s Chief Scientist.

This restructuring has been done in response to the popularity of ChatGPT and Bing Chat. In order to stay in the competition, Google has announced its own ChatGPT-based AI, Google Bard. Following this, Google quickly held an AI event in Paris to further improve its AI strategy.

In the midst of all this, some of Google’s employees have expressed their worries about the effects that these actions may have. Bloomberg reported an employee as saying that some of its instructions are plain wrong and could lead to death such as with instructions on how to scuba dive or land a plane.

Going forward, Google wants to continue developing AI responsibly and safely by providing high-quality content to its users. The DeepMind division and its leadership roles for Hassabis and Dean will hopefully guide the company into a successful and ethical AI path.
