ChatGPT is a revolutionary technology that is present worldwide. Its outstanding features have been praised by many, but it is important to understand why it is so lauded and what it takes to build something like this.
At the recently concluded Entrepreneur India’s Tech & Innovation Summit 2023 in Bangalore, Srikanth Velamakanni, co-founder and group CEO at Fractal, took a few minutes to explain the power of AI behind ChatGPT. He spoke about the comparison between Siri’s introduction in 2011 and ChatGPT now, and how technology has evolved dramatically in the past five years.
Velamakanni explained that three key things contribute to the accuracy of AI: data, compute and techniques. Therefore, the more data and compute you have, the better your results will be. Additionally, the techniques used to combine these two components are also important. It is this multiplicative effect of data, compute, and techniques that has helped ChatGPT to reach 100 million users in such a short time.
In the last three to four years, the most popular programming languages have been JavaScript and Python. However, due to the arrival of GitHub Copilot, writing code in English is becoming increasingly popular, allowing devs to be more productive in shorter amounts of time.
The question on everyone’s mind–will AI replace human jobs? Velamakanni believes that AI is not going to completely replace humans; humans who use AI will simply outperform those who do not. AI has the power to drastically improve productivity, with the estimation of 10 lines of code everyday, versus 100x or 200x that can be achieved with AI.
